Commerce – The A&M-Commerce basketball team moved up to number 5 in the last national poll of the season. The top seeded team in the NCAA Division 2 South Central regional that begins this weekend at the A&M-Commerce field house, the Lions moved up 3 spots in the final coaches' poll after winning the Lone Star Conference Championship. A&M-Commerce guard Jermart Miller was also named Co-player of the Year in the 2005 Daktronics ALL-South Central Regional Team announced yesterday.

Commerce – A stabbing victim in Commerce last week is doing well and back at school. The stabbing occurred as a fight broke out at a party on the A&M-Commerce campus last week. Campus police are investigating the incident where 2 people were injured with a knife, and a shooting that occurred later at Mitchell Hall, while Commerce Police are investigating a robbery at the West Gate apartment complex in Commerce that may be linked to the incident.

Commerce – An exciting weekend for A&M-Commerce basketball as the Lions come up with the Lone Star Conference Championship. Friday night showed tournament MVP Jermart Miller getting fouled on a 3 point shot with 1.7 seconds left to play and the Lions trailing Tarleton State 67 to 65. Miller stepped up to the line before the 3,500 person crown, and sunk 3 consecutive free throws to hand the Lions the victory in dramatic fashion.

Greenville – 29 year old Commerce man Charles Parrish has been sentenced to concurrent 20 year sentences for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated kidnapping. Parrish pled guilty in January to both charges in connection with a hold up of the New Way store in Commerce in October 2003. Parrish allegedly used a knife while holding a person hostage while committing the act.
