Contract Position Openings

-Play-by-play88.9 KETR in Commerce, Texas, in association with the Texas A&M University-Commerce Athletic Department, is seeking applications for a contract-based multi-sport play-by-play announcer.

The purpose of the position is to provide on-air play-by-play announcing of Texas A&M University-Commerce football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and possibly soccer, volleyball, and/or softball.

Essential functions include providing an accurate, clear description of games, bringing a measure of entertainment and excitement to the broadcast; being well prepared with information on both teams; possessing a broadcast-quality voice; working smoothly and harmoniously with the on-air color commentator; effectively integrating underwriting and/or commercial announcements into the broadcast, including live reads of spots and billboards as required; recording and/or producing promotional spots for upcoming broadcasts as well as any collateral news material for broadcast, as assigned; effectively representing the University, the Athletic Department, and 88.9 KETR to the public.

Requirements of the position include a working knowledge of broadcast equipment and technology used in radio sports broadcasting; a minimum of two years of football and basketball radio broadcasting experience; some flexibility in scheduling, as position may “ride with the team” in some cases; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; and the ability to work within strict deadlines.

-Color Commentary88.9 KETR in Commerce, Texas, in association with the Texas A&M University-Commerce Athletic Department, is seeking applications for a contract-based multi-sport color commentator to work alongside a play-by-play announcer.

The purpose of the position is to provide knowledgeable on-air analysis of Texas A&M University-Commerce football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and possibly soccer, volleyball, and/or softball.

Essential functions include working effectively and harmoniously with the play-by-play announcer; being well-prepared to provide color commentary at all times during broadcast on a diverse range of related topics; gathering as much information on teams as possible ahead of broadcasts; providing an accurate account of the game’s subtleties while avoiding harsh criticism of players, coaches, officials, etc.; analyzing offensive and defensive tactics up to, but not beyond, your own expertise; providing, as necessary and within guidelines, live reads of spots and billboards; effectively representing the University, the Athletic Department, and 88.9 KETR to the public.

Requirements of the position include a working knowledge of broadcast equipment and technology used in radio sports broadcasting; a minimum of two years of football and basketball radio broadcasting experience; some flexibility in scheduling, as position may “ride with the team” in some cases; and the ability to work within strict deadlines. Previous playing or coaching experience is desired.

Part-Time Position Openings

-Content Producer. Hourly. Reports to Operations Manager, responsible for board operation, on-air tasks and production work as assigned.
