Body found in Hunt County

Hunt County – Hunters in northwest Hunt County have found a body. Two hog hunters are reported to have found the body of a deceased female on Tuesday. Neither the body nor cause of death has yet been determined. Autopsy results are still pending.

West Tawakoni Mayor to step down

West Tawakoni – A Hunt County mayor has stepped down in the midst of a criminal investigation. West Tawakoni Mayor Bill Stausing announced his resignation Tuesday night. He was arrested last week as a suspect in a reported organized crime investigation.

Recent accident kills local woman

Greenville – A Greenville woman has died as a result of a four vehicle accident Wednesday morning. Marcia J. Bird was killed following the accident on Highway 59 and Joe Ramsey Boulevard in Greenville. Three other individuals involved were transported to the hospital, their conditions unknown. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

New charge in Greenville hit and run case

Greenville – A fifth charge has been added in a daycare hit and run case. The Greenville man was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for driving his car into the Wee Wisdom Play School in January 2006. The new charge filed Tuesday alleges a fifth victim was involved in the incident.

Power outages a result of Tuesday's conditions in Hunt County

Hunt County – It was a windy and dangerous day in Hunt County on Tuesday. Brief power outages were reported throughout the region. Another red flag warning is again in effect today, meaning critical fire weather conditions are occurring or expected to occur.

Attorneys appointed for alleged local convenient store robbers

Greenville – Some armed robbery suspects now have attorneys. Two Dallas County men and suspects in the recent string of robberies in Greenville and Sulphur Springs had attorneys appointed to them Tuesday.

A&M-Commerce honors Greenville businessman

Commerce, TX –

Jack Finney of Greenville was honored Tuesday at a luncheon at Texas A&M University-Commerce. The 91 year old businessman/entrepreneur, whose mother attended Mayo College, the predecessor of A&M-Commerce, recently donated $500,000 towards the school's new music building. The concert hall will be named in honor of Mr. Finney and his late wife, Lou.

Progress being made in Search for Texas A&M University-Commerce's next President

Commerce – The Presidential Search Advisory Committee at Texas A&M University-Commerce enters its latest stage. According to Committee Chair David Crenshaw, a list of 35 qualified applicants has been narrowed down to 16. The Committee will now be contacting references of these 16 applicants to gather more information.

Their next scheduled meeting is February 13. The Committee will then narrow their list even further down to 6-8 applicants. Those applicants will then be contacted for off-campus interviews.

Convenient store robbery suspects seek attorney

Hopkins & Hunt County – Two more aggravated robbery suspects are due in court today. Both suspects are seeking an attorney for their alleged involvement in a recent string of convenient store robberies. An attorney was appointed to a third suspect on Monday.
