Progress being made in Search for Texas A&M University-Commerce's next President

Commerce – The Presidential Search Advisory Committee at Texas A&M University-Commerce enters its latest stage. According to Committee Chair David Crenshaw, a list of 35 qualified applicants has been narrowed down to 16. The Committee will now be contacting references of these 16 applicants to gather more information.

Their next scheduled meeting is February 13. The Committee will then narrow their list even further down to 6-8 applicants. Those applicants will then be contacted for off-campus interviews.

Convenient store robbery suspects seek attorney

Hopkins & Hunt County – Two more aggravated robbery suspects are due in court today. Both suspects are seeking an attorney for their alleged involvement in a recent string of convenient store robberies. An attorney was appointed to a third suspect on Monday.

Agency to hold meeting on local highway projects

Hunt County – Planning is underway for future Hunt County highways. The North Central Texas Council of Governments has scheduled a public meeting for next Monday. The agency will discuss the expansion of its metropolitan planning area.

Wildfire risks today across region

Hunt County – It could be a windy and fiery day today. A red flag warning has been issued throughout the region due to an increased risk of grass and wildfires. The warning comes on the wings of an expected cold front plus high winds.

Convenient store robbery suspects charged

Hopkins County – Suspects have been charged in connection to a series of robberies in Hopkins County. One suspect will appear in court Monday for his alleged role in the hold-up of several area convenient stores.

Reward for murder information doubles

Greenville – The reward in connection to a Hunt County double murder has gone up. Information leading to arrests of the person or person's responsible for the death of two local individuals has risen from 5,000 to 10,000.

Conspiracy allegations made in local Mayor arrest

West Tawakoni – The Mayor of a Hunt County city is alleged to have been a part of a wide spread conspiracy. West Tawakoni Mayor William Stausing was arrested under warrant Thursday. Officials in West Tawakoni intend to meet Tuesday to discuss Stausing's status as Mayor.

Local man indicted

Commerce – A Commerce man has been indicted in connection to an aggravated assault. George David Phifer was indicted Saturday. He's alleged to have stabbed a male victim last July.
