Hunt County man may face life sentence

Hunt County – A confession on an arson charge may bring a life sentence for a Hunt County man. James Ray Collard of Quinlan pleaded guilty in February to setting fire to a house filled with children.

Cumby High School football team to play Friday

Cumby – The Cumby High School football team has a working Thanksgiving holiday, but for a good reason. The Trojans are preparing to play for the 1-A area championship Friday night. The Trojans, with a season record of 6-4, take on Tenaha. Friday night's game is in Gladewater at Jack Murphy stadium and starts at 7:30 p.m. This is Cumby's first trip to the playoffs since 1979.

Commerce sex offender ordinance to go into effect

Commerce – A sex offender ordinance recently approved by the Commerce City Council goes into effect tomorrow.

The ordinance prohibits sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a school, college, daycare facility, park or playground. It also restricts them from loitering within 300 feet of those facilities. The ordinance was approved at the Council's November 6 meeting.

Greenville man deported

Greenville – A Greenville man has been deported in connection with felony labeling charges following raids on booths at the Quinlan Trade Days. Following an indictment dismissal Nicholas Villanueva Vargas was turned over to the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.
