Mosquito spraying this week in Commerce

Commerce – The City of Commerce will once again be spraying for mosquitoes this week. The chemicals are low toxicity to people and pets, but highly toxic to fish, so cover fish ponds when spraying is in your area, and stay indoors for at least 30 minutes when trucks are spraying. Improper teacher/student relationship exposed

North Hopkins – A Sulphur Springs woman who served as a secondary coach and teacher has resigned from the North Hopkins ISD prior to being arrested Friday for improper relationship between an educator and a student. 30 year old Heather Alicia Thompson turned herself in to the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department on the charge Friday after confessing to the second degree felony offense.

Officials had previously received information that the woman had been having a relationship with a 17 year old male student since April 1st.

Prosecution rests in sentencing phase of Ward trial

Greenville – Prosecutors have already rested their case in a capital murder sentencing hearing. Adam Ward faces death by lethal injection or life in prison after being found guilty of murdering Michael Pee Wee Walker of Commerce. Sentencing continues Wednesday.

New development in Greenville

Greenville – A proposed new housing development has gotten the green light from some Greenville City Officials. A developer is wanting to build a seniors multi-family development along Joe Ramsey Blvd. The complex is expected to include a dining room, beauty shop, fitness center, coffee shop, and swimming pool.

Greenville municipal building closes early

Greenville, TX –

City of Greenville offices located in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street, closed Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. due to an outage in the building's air conditioning system.

Repair crews are working on the system and offices are expected to open again Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m.

Greenville City Offices at other locations are still open as usual.

Interviews Monday for Paris City Manager

Paris, Texas – The Paris City Council is set to interview at least two candidates for City Manager today. The Pace Group of Tupelo, Mississippi was hired as the search firm to find candidates for the position, with the city eventually paying up to $35,000 for the services.

But not everyone is happy.

Sentencing begins in Adam Ward trial

Greenville – The sentencing hearing begins today in a Commerce Capital Murder Case. Adam Ward was found guilty of the capital murder in the shooting death of Michael Pee Wee Walker in 2005. Ward now faces death by lethal injection or life in prison.
