Accounts opened for injured Commerce man

Commerce – Accounts have been set up for a Commerce resident and law enforcement officer who was injured in an accident. Kevin Winfield was injured in a single-car crash over Memorial Day weekend. Benefit accounts have been established at Guaranty Banks in Commerce and Sulphur Springs.

Drug house raided in Ladonia

Ladonia – A drug house in Ladonia has been raided for the fourth time since September, with the same results. Officers confiscated crack cocaine and marijuana and detained 10 people, arresting three of them. Small children were also present in the house, with one small boy there for the second time during such a raid.

The legal owner of the property died 10 years ago, and squatters have made the house a high traffic drug house since then.

Commerce City Council meeting notes

Commerce – Watering restrictions have been lifted in Commerce. The City Council voted to rescind all watering restrictions in regular session last night. Recent rains have elevated the levels of Lake Tawakoni to near normal, including rising nearly four feet in the past few weeks. City Manager Bill Shipp.

SHIPP: For us, the real big issue is can we keep our large pump in the water during the time when there might be heavy watering. That gives us plenty of room for the large pump to operate this summer.

Man charged with stealing lots of stuff

Greenville – A former Commerce resident is being charged with stealing an assortment of items. Gary Lynn Carey has been accused of stealing a gooseneck trailer, a boat, and an RV from two counties in February and March.

Commerce woman pleads not guilty

Greenville – A Commerce woman has entered pleas in connection with a series of alleged debit card thefts. Julie Darlene Pierce was arraigned yesterday on seven charges of stealing debit cards and attempting to use them. She pled not guilty to the charges.

Man takes hostages, holds police off in Bonham

Bonham – A 50 year old disabled Bonham man has been arrested after a stand-off Monday night. Thomas Eugene Foster said he was trying to get police to kill him after he took several hostages at a Taco Bell-KFC restaurant in Bonham. He allegedly told the hostages he had a gun and would kill them all.

Wolfe City – Hunt County has filed a lawsuit against two Wolfe City residents that have erected a gate across what officials say is a county road. The two say it isn't--it's just their driveway.

Paris Mayor saves a life

Paris, Texas – Its one way to serve the people. Paris' new Mayor, Jesse Freelen, helped save a man's life Saturday after the man suffered a heart attack in the grandstands of the Paris Motor Speedway. Freelen performed emergency CPR on 44 year old Roger Stripland after finishing a race.

New CISD Superintendent on the job next month

Commerce – Mike Roberts, the new Superintendent of Commerce Schools, said he is looking forward to being back in the area and with CISD.

ROBERTS: I'm really excited about the opportunity to come back and lead the Commerce Independent School District. It is a school district with a proud history.

Roberts said he hopes to be on the job in about six weeks.
