New CISD Superintendent on the job next month

Commerce – Mike Roberts, the new Superintendent of Commerce Schools, said he is looking forward to being back in the area and with CISD.

ROBERTS: I'm really excited about the opportunity to come back and lead the Commerce Independent School District. It is a school district with a proud history.

Roberts said he hopes to be on the job in about six weeks.

Dowtown Bonham burns

Bonham – Fire ravaged the east side of downtown Bonham Wednesday night. According to North Texas E-News, the first call of a fire on the Bonham Square came in around 11 p.m. More than 40 firefighters from seven local towns battled the blaze into the early morning hours.

Five businesses were destroyed or damaged. Childs Flooring and Bewleys Five and Dime were completely destroyed. The Allstate building south of Bewleys suffered extensive smoke and water damage. Moore Chiropractic and Grace Catfish were also damaged.

CISD summer lunch program starts Monday

Commerce, TX –

There is such a thing as a free lunch, for Commerce children ages 2 through 18. Just drop by the Commerce Middle School gym porch Monday through Thursdays between noon and 12:30.

The June schedule runs from the 4th through the 27th. Then CISD offices will be closed June 28th through July 6th. Meal service will return July 9th and continue through August 9th.

A&M-Commerce track honor

Commerce, TX –

A Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field student-athlete has been honored by the Lone Star Conference. Kyle Thompson from Cooper shared the men's conference academic performer of the year award. Thompson, who high jumps and runs hurdles for the Lions, is a junior to be pre-med major.

Greenville police arrest suspect in armed robbery

Greenville, TX –

Less than one hour after Greenville's K-Food Mart on O'Neal was robbed late Tuesday night, Greenville police made an arrest.

According to a news release, after witnesses were interviewed and an in-store videotape was reviewed, officers found a white male matching the suspect's description in the area of the holdup.

Police recovered money believed stolen along with a small caliber handgun.

Greenville ends water conservation measures

Greenville, TX –

Tuesday brought an end to Stage 1 water conservation measures in Greenville. Interim City Manager Barry Robinson said recent rain has recharged city reservoirs. Stage 1 measures, implemented in March, asked Greenville residents to voluntarily reduce water consumption.

Greenville Majors Field received over 7 inches of rain in less than one week, including a shade over 1 inch on Tuesday. Commerce received a quarter-inch Tuesday.
