Bonham – Fire ravaged the east side of downtown Bonham Wednesday night. According to North Texas E-News, the first call of a fire on the Bonham Square came in around 11 p.m. More than 40 firefighters from seven local towns battled the blaze into the early morning hours.
Five businesses were destroyed or damaged. Childs Flooring and Bewleys Five and Dime were completely destroyed. The Allstate building south of Bewleys suffered extensive smoke and water damage. Moore Chiropractic and Grace Catfish were also damaged.
A Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field student-athlete has been honored by the Lone Star Conference. Kyle Thompson from Cooper shared the men's conference academic performer of the year award. Thompson, who high jumps and runs hurdles for the Lions, is a junior to be pre-med major.
Tuesday brought an end to Stage 1 water conservation measures in Greenville. Interim City Manager Barry Robinson said recent rain has recharged city reservoirs. Stage 1 measures, implemented in March, asked Greenville residents to voluntarily reduce water consumption.
Greenville Majors Field received over 7 inches of rain in less than one week, including a shade over 1 inch on Tuesday. Commerce received a quarter-inch Tuesday.
