Big bust in Cumby

Cumby – Police in Cumby Monday seized $223,000 and nearly 13 pounds of cocaine. Two women and a man from Michigan were taken into custody after police found the cash and drugs in the trunk of their car after a routine traffic stop. Police said all three will be charged unless one of them claims the cocaine during questioning.

Early voting underway

Texas – Early voting has started for the May municipal, school, and state elections. Statewide, voters will decide whether or not to allow the legislature to go over the state's spending cap, providing $14 billion to local school districts to complete the new public school financing plan. The measure will also include passing property tax cuts on to elderly and disabled homeowners who now have their property taxes frozen.

Adam Ward delusional says psychiatrist

Greenville – Dr. Kristi Compton, a forensic psychologist hired by Ward's defense team testified Monday that Ward suffered from a "shared psychotic disorder" which he received from his father and that Ward's mental status might improve if he was removed from access to the father and placed in an environment where he could receive treatment and medications.

Compton said while Ward "factually" understands the trial process in which he is involved, he does not have a "rational" understanding.

Bonham man convicted for child abuse

Fannin County – A Fannin County jury has given a man 36 years in prison for the beating of a 6 year old boy. Honorio Arezano Baez has been convicted of first degree injury of a child, which Assistant Fannin County Attorney Brad Setterberg described as outright torture, according to The Paris News.

New Chief Appraiser named

Hunt County – Hunt County has named a new Chief Appraiser. Current Rockwall County Deputy Chief Appraiser Brent South will become the new Chief Appraiser for Hunt County. South has worked in a variety of appraisal positions since 1998, including roles in Smith and Dallas Counties.

South will start the job in June. He replaces long-time Hunt County Appraiser Mildred Compton, who announced her retirement in January.

A&M-Commerce celebrates women's basketball

Hundreds gathered to honor the record setting season of the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team. Texas A&M University-Commerce President Dr. Keith McFarland congratulated the Lions women's basketball team for their record-setting season. The 2006-2007 team was the first in school history to reach the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.

Campbell Store robber in jail

Campbell – A man alleged to have robbed the Campbell Store at gunpoint Monday is scheduled for a court hearing today.

Joshua Robinson is being held on $150,000 bond for aggravated robbery. Robinson is alleged to have robbed the Campbell Store shortly after 10am Monday. Greenville Police Chief Harold Roseberry responded to the call, and after being given a description of the suspect's vehicle, located the car at the Dream Lodge Motel in Greenville. Roseberry held Robinson at gunpoint until sheriff's deputies arrived.
