Commerce Christmas Parade Thursday

Commerce – The Commerce Christmas Parade is set for this Thursday, December 7th, in Downtown Commerce. The theme this year is A Texas Christmas .

Participants will begin lining up at the Commerce City Park at 5:30 and judging will begin at 6pm Thursday. The parade will begin moving towards the downtown square at 7pm.

Santa Claus will also make his appearance in the parade and will be throwing out candy for everyone.

Paris, Texas – The burned body of a woman was found after a mobile home fire in Paris Saturday. The cause of the fire in the 800 block of North Ninth Street is still under investigation.

Bonham soldier dies in Afghanistan

Fannin County – An American soldier from Fannin County died Afghanistan Tuesday. 31 year old Michael Shank on Bonham was killed when his Humvee ran over a landmine during routine patrols. The Staff Sergeant was a graduate of Dodd City High School. Shank had been in Afghanistan for six months and served a previous tour in Iraq two years ago. He is survived by his wife and two young daughters.

Man arrested after shootout

Red River County – A Caddo Mills man is in custody on multiple charges after a shootout with police Saturday in Clarksville. 27 year old Jason Cohn Morris is charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and three counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer. To add to that, he is also charged with evading arrest and criminal mischief.

More charges filed in Denison shooting

Denison – More charges have been filed against a Denison man arrested in the shooting death of a three year old boy. 18 year old Shawn Michael June has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and reckless injury or death to a child after his nephew, Ashton Scott Matthews, was shot and killed last week.

Bond set in Commerce shooting

Commerce – Bond has been set at $50,000 for a man charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a Commerce shooting over the weekend. 24 year old John Scott Thompson II was taken into custody Saturday night after a Hunt County man was shot in the back with a high powered rifle outside a house along Oak Lane in Commerce. The victim, 37 year old Wade Star of Campbell, remains in serious condition in a Dallas hospital.

Arrest made in Commerce shooting

Commerce – An arrest has been made in a Saturday evening shooting in Commerce. The name of the suspect has not been released as of Sunday because the person had not been formally charged or arraigned. Charges are expected to be filed today.

Man gets 10 years for using drugs around a toddler

Lamar County – A 25 year old Cumby man has been sentenced in Lamar County to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay $10,000 in fines for smoking and transporting methamphetamines around a child. A jury took only five minutes to return the guilty verdict for Micha Stotts for using the drug around his girlfriend's toddler. The mother, Deanna Pridemore, was sentenced to 6 years deferred adjudication probation for the same offense in 2005.
