Fannin County – An American soldier from Fannin County died Afghanistan Tuesday. 31 year old Michael Shank on Bonham was killed when his Humvee ran over a landmine during routine patrols. The Staff Sergeant was a graduate of Dodd City High School. Shank had been in Afghanistan for six months and served a previous tour in Iraq two years ago. He is survived by his wife and two young daughters.
Red River County – A Caddo Mills man is in custody on multiple charges after a shootout with police Saturday in Clarksville. 27 year old Jason Cohn Morris is charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and three counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer. To add to that, he is also charged with evading arrest and criminal mischief.
Denison – More charges have been filed against a Denison man arrested in the shooting death of a three year old boy. 18 year old Shawn Michael June has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and reckless injury or death to a child after his nephew, Ashton Scott Matthews, was shot and killed last week.
Commerce – Bond has been set at $50,000 for a man charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a Commerce shooting over the weekend. 24 year old John Scott Thompson II was taken into custody Saturday night after a Hunt County man was shot in the back with a high powered rifle outside a house along Oak Lane in Commerce. The victim, 37 year old Wade Star of Campbell, remains in serious condition in a Dallas hospital.
Commerce – An arrest has been made in a Saturday evening shooting in Commerce. The name of the suspect has not been released as of Sunday because the person had not been formally charged or arraigned. Charges are expected to be filed today.
Lamar County – A 25 year old Cumby man has been sentenced in Lamar County to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay $10,000 in fines for smoking and transporting methamphetamines around a child. A jury took only five minutes to return the guilty verdict for Micha Stotts for using the drug around his girlfriend's toddler. The mother, Deanna Pridemore, was sentenced to 6 years deferred adjudication probation for the same offense in 2005.
