Paris City Manager job safe so far

Paris, Texas – Paris City Manager Tony Williams still has a job. A large crowd gathered to show their support for Williams last night at a Paris City Council meeting. Councilman Tim Ray had pushed the issue of firing Williams onto the agenda, but instead made a motion to table the item after a huge crowd gathered to show their support for Williams.

Fannin County Jail looking towards expanding

Fannin County – Two architects have been looking at ways for the Fannin County Jail to expand. County Sheriff Kenneth Moore says the current jail in Bonham is overcrowded. Fannin County currently has to house some inmates in other counties at a cost around $18,000 per month.

New housing project for Commerce

Commerce – The Commerce City Council took another step towards housing development in regular session Tuesday. Anthony L. Francois, an A&M-Commerce alum, previously suggested using vacant lots owned by the city to build new homes for moderate to low income families. The addition would be very similar to the Enlow Addition in Commerce, which means potential buyers may be eligible for help, according to Francois.

Hunt County Fair

Hunt County – The 39th Annual Hunt County Fair and Junior Livestock Show starts tomorrow in Greenville. The fair runs each day through June 17th. Fairgoers can look forward to some new rides on the Midway this year by Talley Amusements. The half-million dollar Scorpion will be open as well as favorites like the Zipper and the Ferris Wheel.

Facilities update

Commerce – Construction on the New City Hall and Fire/Police Station in Commerce is still on target for September completion. The Commerce City Council received a monthly update from General Contractor Harrison, Walker, and Harper in regular session last night. Brick is expected to begin being installed on City Hall by the end of this week or early next week, with brickwork on the Fire/Police Complex beginning in about two weeks.

Country Club rebuilding after fire

Wolfe City – Webb Hill Country Club in Wolfe City is rebuilding. A fire swept through the club in March, destroying the pro shop, club house, and ballroom. Construction is underway, however, to open an even larger facility in late October or early November.
The club's pool and golf course remains open to its 630 members with a temporary building to serve as the pro shop and lounge area.

Attempted robbery of Farmersville Bank

Farmersville – Three suspects are in custody in connection with an attempted bank robbery in Farmersville. Just before noon Monday, a hold-up alarm was sounded at First Bank of Farmersville. Two black men wearing ski masks, one of which was armed, entered the bank and demanded money. However, the two men left before getting any money and met a third man waiting in a truck.

Stolen farm equipment recovered

Hunt County – Over $330,000 worth of stolen farm and construction equipment has been recovered in Hunt and Delta Counties. The equipment was recovered from Anderton Ranch and Anderton Grass Farms after search warrants were executed at the locations. Most of the equipment is thought to be from Texas and Oklahoma with some from as far away as Colorado. No arrests have been made in the case.
