Blind man runs over construction workers

Sulphur Springs – Two construction workers were killed and two other injured Saturday when a legally blind man ignored flagmen, struck a cement truck, and ran down several pedestrians.

New Commerce Mayor to be sworn in

Commerce – The Commerce City Council will be canvassing the May 10th election and swearing in a new Mayor and council members tonight. Quay Throgmorton will be the new Mayor for Commerce and Bob Monday will be new to the council. Billie Biggerstaff remains at her Place 2 seat.

The meeting is tonight at 7pm at Commerce City Hall and can also be seen on Cable Channel 3 in Commerce and Cooper.

Trial begins for daycare crasher

Greenville – Trial has begun in a case where a man drove into a daycare center in Greenville. Richard Leonor Whytus pled guilty Monday after prosecutors alleged he had twice the legal amount of alcohol in his system and was travelling up to 80 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood when he crashed his car into a daycare center.

Charges dropped in Commerce stabbing

Commerce – Charges have been dropped against a Commerce man charged with aggravated assault. A witness was unable to identify George David Phifer as the culprit. The charges were dismissed due to lack of evidence.

Former KGVL/KIKT GM charged for theft

Greenville – An arrest has been made in the theft of a check meant to purchase a jukebox. Charles Joslin, formerly the General Manager of KGVL/KIKT, has been accused of stealing checks written to the station to benefit a program through the United Way of Hunt County. Joslin was also arrested Friday in connection with an unrelated alleged theft, according to Greenville Police.

West Wing expansion for HMHD opens this week

Greenville – The Hunt Memorial Hospital District will celebrate the opening of the new West Wing this week. A four day open house will culminate with a public ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Linda Armstrong Kelly, mother of cancer survivor Lance Armstrong. The new wing and expanded tours will be open after the ceremony at 1:30 Thursday afternoon.

Voters passed a $24 million bond package in 2006 for the 97,000 square foot expansion, which will feature a cancer center, new ICU, and improved dining facilities.

Paris woman victim of home invasion

Paris, Texas – A Paris woman was the victim of a home invasion robbery Friday, according to The Paris News. The unidentified woman was putting up groceries from her car she had left in her garage when she looked up to find a 250lb black man in dark clothes standing over her. The man struck her with a blunt object, stole her purse, and fled the scene.

The suspect remains at large.

New Scam in area

North Texas – A new scam is making the rounds in North Texas. Law enforcement is warning of another scam in the area aimed at getting access to your bank account by offering a too good to be true job. Several residents in Paris have recently become victims of the scam, losing thousands of dollars.

Trial starts for man the drove into a daycare

Greenville – Trial begins today in the case of a man accused of driving his car into a crowded daycare in Greenville. Jury selection begins today in the trial of Richard Whytus, who is facing eight counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after driving his car into the Wee Wisdom Daycare two years ago.

Click It or Ticket!

Hunt County – Its time to Click It or Ticket . The Hunt County Sheriff's Office and Commerce Police are combining forces with law enforcement across the state to promote the use of safety belts starting today. Increased enforcement will be in place through June 1st and during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
