Deputies cleared in April shooting

Hunt County – Three Hunt County Sheriff's deputies have been cleared of any wrong-doing in the April shooting death of a Hunt County man. The Hunt County grand jury declined to indict any of the three men from an incident which Texas Ranger investigators said was self defense.

COMMERCE HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS

The Commerce Tigers defeated the Quinlan-Ford Panthers Friday to make a 3-1 district run and secure a playoff berth for the 15th straight year. A share of the District 11-3A title is likely as well. Quinlan came to town with perhaps their best performance all season for the rivalry against the Tigers. The Panthers looked sharp and came out gunning to send Commerce reeling with a halftime score of 12-9 Quinlan.

Construction in full swing for Commerce housing project

Commerce – Construction has begun on an owner-occupied housing project in Commerce. The project identifies over 50% dilapidated housing and rebuilds the homes for free for the owners. This is the second time the City of Commerce has been approved for participation in the project. Ten homes were rebuilt about two years ago with five homes being targeted this time.

Its Halloween!

Commerce – It's going to be a long Halloween weekend for tricksters of all ages. The kids will surely be pulling their parents out for some trick-or-treating over the weekend, but a host of activities will be running in Commerce Monday, Halloween night. The annual Trick or Treat Downtown will be held from 5:30 to 7 with merchants handing out candy and streets marked off for safe trick-or-treating. The event has been successful every year, according to Commerce City Manager Bill Shipp.

Tigers, Lions both at home this weekend

COMMERCE HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS

The Commerce Tigers finish up their regular season tonight as they host the winless Quinlan Ford Panthers. The Tigers have dropped just one game in district play, and with Emory-Rains soundly defeating Mount Vernon last week, the District 11-3A title is up for grabs. The Tigers have the last week of the season off as they will watch to see playoff match-ups unfold.

Veterans honored at A&M-Commerce

Commerce – The 14th Annual Veteran's Vigil begins today on the A&M-Commerce campus. This year's Veterans Vigil honors America's men and women in Iraq. The Vigil Flame on the East Lawn will be guarded by area veterans up until just before the A&M-Commerce vs. West Texas A&M game Saturday. The flame will be brought into Memorial Stadium around 1:45 Saturday for a patriotic pre-game ceremony, including a 21 gun salute and a military fly-over.

Hunt County out of flu vaccines

Hunt County – The Hunt County Health Department is reporting that it has run out of adult flu vaccines for now. The agency will not be able to administer vaccines for about three weeks. Some doses of children's vaccines are still currently available, but more adult vaccines are not expected to arrive until after November 14th.

A&M-Commerce soccer nears end of regular season with impressive performances

Commerce – The A&M-Commerce women's soccer teams came up big yesterday with a 5-0 shutout of Dallas Baptist. It took just under 12 minutes to notch all five goals early in the game, allowing the Lions to play conservative and defensive the rest of the afternoon.
