Bonham animal shelter discussions continue


Bonham – The study of a new animal shelter in Bonham continues, as city leaders calculate an estimated cost and building size.

The city was forced to go the project alone, after Fannin County Commissioners recently announced that a countywide facility would not be possible due to a lack of funding.

One man arrested, more suspects sought in stabbing


Hunt County – One suspect is in custody following a Tuesday evening stabbing in South Hunt County that left one man critically injured.

Authorities have charged 22-year-old John Michael Loftin, of Quinlan, with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly stabbing a man in the abdomen at a residence on CR 2290. He remained in the Hunt County Jail as of Thursday.

The condition of the victim, whose name has still not been released, remained in critical condition at last report.

Hart sentenced to less prison time


Paris – A guilty plea is again entered in a Paris sexual assault case, but a significantly less punishment is handed down.

Aaron Hart is the mentally challenged teenager who was sentenced back in 2009 to 100 years in prison after being found guilty in his first trial.

Search continues for missing woman


Sulphur Springs – A missing woman from Sulphur Springs has reportedly been spotted alive and well at a residence in Hugo, Oklahoma.

Police say that 33-year-old Melissa McVay Darling was seen there Sunday night, and then reportedly went to Paris, but has not contacted family members.

Darling is 5' 8" tall and is believed to be driving a Ford 2010 Explorer Tracker.

She was reported missing after dropping off her daughter last Friday at the child's father's home, and then never returned.

Efforts continue to save local post offices


Cooper – State legislators are hearing the concerns of Delta County residents, amidst threats to close down several of their post offices.

Post office box holders in Ben Franklin, Enloe and Lake Creek met last week for the third time since February, and are now working to schedule a meeting with an official from District 2 State Representative Ralph Hall's office.

School wants to learn more on civic center


Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs School Board has put on hold the possible acquisition of the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center.

Members on Monday tabled an agenda item to pay a firm to investigate reported water infiltration into the auditorium and to recommend repairs. School officials want to meet with county officials to discuss the auditorium.

Partlow sentenced for impersonating lawyer


Greenville – A Dallas man has pleaded guilty to impersonating a lawyer in a Hunt County courtroom. Jeffery Scott Partlow entered the plea Tuesday.

As part of a plea deal, he was placed on ten years probation.

Partlow was arrested in October 2010 after appearing as an attorney representing a client in a misdemeanor case. During the session, Partlow appeared to be intoxicated and was detained. He was later charged with and found guilty of public intoxication and contempt of court and received 90 days in jail.

Authorities investigate multiple stabbings


Greenville – One man was critically wounded and two others injured Tuesday night as the result of multiple stabbings in South Hunt County.

One victim, located at the Texaco Station at the intersection of Interstate 30 and FM 1903, had a serious knife wound to his abdomen and was careflighted to Parkland Hospital in very critical condition where he remained as of Wednesday night. Another victim was treated at the scene and another transported to the hospital in Greenville. No names were released.

Tatum avoids aggravated assault charges


Greenville – Heavy charges against a Commerce teenager are dismissed, but multiple felony indictments remain in connection to last year's alleged burglary, vehicle theft and chase.

17-year-old Sabien Zane Tatum had pleaded not guilty to all five charges.

Authorities believe he broke into a Hunt County residence in June, 2010 and stole a video system and games, a digital camera, jewelry and printer. Tatum was also alleged to have stolen a pickup truck from the same location on the same day.
