Hearing concerning boy that shot himself

Smith County – A hearing continues today to determine if Jaden McLean should be released to his father or kept in the care of Child Protective Services.

Last month, two year old Jaden shot himself in the head with a 9mm handgun he found in his grandparent's Smith County bar. The boy's grandfather, Charles McLean, is facing criminal charges for the shooting.

No funds for ambulance

Honey Grove – Today will be the last day a Bonham EMS ambulance will be housed in Honey Grove. The ambulance will be moved back to Bonham due to reduced subsidy from the county.

The ambulance has been housed at the Honey Grove Volunteer Fired Department for the last 8 months to respond to the large number of calls throughout the eastern part of Fannin County.

Bonham Assistant Fire Chief Brad Nichols said the situation will be re-evaluated in January.

Fire Department seeks grant funding


Commerce – The Commerce Fire Department hopes a recently submitted grant application will allow for more volunteer firefighters.

Fire Chief Brian McNevin requested and was granted approval to apply for the funds last month.

Violent purse snatcher going away for awhile

Greenville – A Greenville woman has been convicted of aggravated robbery and sentenced to prison. A jury convicted Crystal Rodriguez Tuesday and handed down a 6 year sentence in prison yesterday. Rodriguez is one of three people arrested and charged in a violent purse snatching outside a Greenville store March 22nd.

Want fence? Got cash?

Greenville – It will cost a little more to put up a fence in Greenville. The Greenville City Council approved an amendment Tuesday that will require a permit for building some types of fences and screening walls.

The new rules include the need for permits before construction, as well as limits on heights and rules on what types of materials would be allowed for fences and screening walls.

Woman busted; Man runs

Lone Oak – 19 year old Ashley Nicole Williams of Lone Oak has been arrested by Hopkins County deputies for possession of a controlled substance. She was a passenger in a car that fled at a high rate of speed after a traffic stop in Sulphur Springs. The driver of that vehicle managed to escape officers after a manhunt.

Assistant DA found dead

Sherman – Grayson County Assistant District Attorney Joel Durrett was found dead inside his home Tuesday. Sherman police found Durrett in his Sherman home just after 6pm Tuesday evening.

Officials are waiting on autopsy results before releasing any information on how Durrett died.

Flags were flown at half-mast yesterday at the Grayson County Courthouse.

Man charged in Quinlan shooting

Quinlan – A Quinlan man has been charged in a Sunday night shooting that left three people wounded. A Ford High School football player was among the wounded, according to Sheriff Randy Meeks. Gregory Clyde Bostick, 43, was charged and arraigned Tuesday evening with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bostick was released from custody on a total of $150,000 bond.

Commerce – All high school juniors, seniors and transfer students are invited to Texas A&M University-Commerce on Saturday, Oct. 16 for Mane Event Preview Day. Students will get the opportunity to survey the campus and get their questions answered about the university.
