Local family to appear on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"


Mineola – A Wood County family will receive the makeover of a lifetime after being selected by the TV show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

Katrina and Mike Carr live in Mineola with their four adopted children.

The "Extreme Makeover" team and hundreds of local volunteers will build the Carr's a new home while the Carr family will go on vacation to Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu.

Two arrested in bizarre drug bust along I-30


Titus County – Nearly 80 pounds of marijuana were discovered Wednesday following a stop on Interstate 30 in Titus County.

But while State Trooper Jose Osornio was in the process of arresting the driver another vehicle reportedly drove up and a man got out and stole the vehicle containing the drugs.

A pursuit would ensue and the man was captured after he wrecked out on FM 1001.

His name was not released, nor was that of the original driver, a 35-year-old woman from Wisconsin. No major injuries were reported.

Student arrested for drug possession


Commerce – A Criminal Justice student at Texas A&M University-Commerce was arrested Wednesday for possession of marijuana.

21-year-old Michael Rashad Horn was found with over four ounces of the drug, as well as a 9mm pistol and numerous items of drug paraphernalia.

The bust occurred in the 1900 block of Live Oak Street at Gant Apartments.

Warrants lead to drug busts in Paris


Paris – Two separate searches Wednesday by officers with the Paris PD Narcotics Division netted an abundance of paraphernalia and led to two arrests.

32-year-old Fredrick Lee Sanders was found in possession of a substance which later tested positive for cocaine at a residence in the 500 block of East Grove.

Greenville updates emergency notification system


Greenville – The City of Greenville has recently updated its account with Emergency Communications Network, providers of the CodeRED notification system. This no-charge update will allow message recipients to easily identify calls coming through the systems. Message recipient's Caller ID will read Emergency Communications Network or 866-419-5000 for CodeRED calls. And for CodeRED Weather Warning calls, either Emergency Communications Network or the number 800-566-9780 will appear on Caller ID displays.

Hunt County to host storm spotter training course


Greenville – Emergency Management partners across Hunt County will host the SKYWARN storm spotter training class Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center in Greenville. The event is designed to provide local weather spotters with the tools needed to accurately identify and describe severe local storms and report in a timely manner to the National Weather Service.

Mark Fox is the warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service Office in Fort Worth.

Council to look into moratorium on impact fees


Greenville – The Greenville City Council is looking to stop collecting impact fees; one of the tools used to pay for local economic development.

Some council members Tuesday voiced their support of a moratorium on the fees, amid concerns that with the current state of the economy the fees hurt rather than assist development.

Others were not entirely sure a break from collecting the fees was needed, as the fees are designed to lessen the need for taxes in paying for infrastructure.

More indictments to be issued by Grand Jury


Greenville – More indictments are expected to be handed down Friday by the Hunt County Grand Jury.

The panel may hear evidence this week concerning two recent homicides.

Wills Point resident Danny Lane Campbell is charged with the murder of a Quinlan-area resident last month.

Meanwhile there have been no arrests made in a shooting death earlier this month near West Tawakoni. Michael C. Nix of Quinlan was killed during the incident.

Details released in recent shooting in Hunt County


Greenville – New developments have emerged in last weekend's shooting at a Hunt County game room that left one dead.

Guadalupe Ramirez III, of Greenville and Darreus Demont Williams, of Van Alstyne remained in custody Wednesday each charged with one count of aggravated robbery and each in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Vincent Thomas of Greenville was identified by the sheriff's office as the deceased individual.

Both Ramirez and Williams will appear in court Thursday seeking reductions in their bond.
