Services set for Monday accident victim


Greenville – Monday's three vehicle accident that killed a Greenville man occurred near the same intersection that another resident was killed late last month.

Services for 65-year-old Larry Olson, who had served as the superintendent of the Greenville water treatment plant, are scheduled for Friday afternoon at First Baptist Church.

State Troopers say a pickup heading northbound collided with another pickup, forcing it into the southbound lane and into the motorcycle Olson was driving.

Area cities look to put alcohol sales to vote


– The cities of Alba and Mineola are the latest area cities looking at becoming wet. Residents are currently collecting signatures to gain support on the issue.

Mineola would need to obtain 349 signatures and Alba would need 35 from eligible voters in order to call an election.

Hunt County Commissioners last month approved an alcohol sales petition submitted by Quinlan residents. That item will not go before voters in November.

Course to help authorities better control drug trade


Greenville – The Hunt County Sheriff's office is continuing its battle against drugs, notably methamphetamine, with chemical dependency courses targeting inmates who are drug users.

In partnership with Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, student affairs coordinator and assistant professor at Texas A&M University-Commerce, officials hope to further educate themselves and others about meth and its association with Hunt County.

Grenville man killed in weekend wreck


Greenville – A Grenville man was killed over the weekend following a three vehicle wreck along Hwy 60 near Lone Oak.

65-year-old Leonard Larry Olson was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Troopers say a pickup headed northbound rear-ended another pickup, forcing the second pickup into the southbound lane and into the motorcycle Olson was driving.

Run for the Red event set for Saturday


Greenville – Local firefighters will be the beneficiaries of an event this weekend.

The third annual Jane H. Taylor Run for the Red benefit is scheduled for Saturday at the Hunt County Fairgrounds in Greenville.

Organizer Jay Adkins says Taylor, his mother-in-law, passed away shortly before the first event. Adkins says Taylor was an avid supporter of the County's volunteer fire departments and one of the first leaders of the Hunt County Firefighter Association.

Motorists to experience another year of repairs


Greenville – About a year of work remains for construction to continue along Interstate 30 in Greenville.

According to TxDot, work is almost finished on one local overpass with the replacement of another overpass across the interstate scheduled to hit high gear early 2011.

Area Engineer Craig Miser says the next big step in the process will be the final opening later this month on both sides of the highway at the Monty Stratton Overpass and the road that runs underneath.

Fannin County man charged with murder


Fannin County – A Saturday shooting in Fannin County leaves one resident dead, and another charged in the alleged murder.

The shooting happened in the 3400 block of County Road 2250. The body of Michael Davis, of Telephone, was found by authorities upon arrival on scene. Ivanhoe resident Russell Lyles is now facing murder charges.

Deputies say the two men knew each other, but they aren't releasing any other details, as the investigation is on-going.
