Greenville – The Greenville City Council Tuesday was presented the proposed budget for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

In an effort to sustain services to the public and work toward achieving the goals of the city council, City Manager Steven Alexander presented a proposed budget that lowers the tax rate and does not call for an increase in water or sewer rates.

Paris – The body of 24 year old Marine Sgt. Jay M. Hoskins, of Paris, will be flown into Cox Field tomorrow about noon.

Area residents are asked to line the streets as Sgt Hoskins's body is transported to Fry-Gibbs Funeral Parlor. The funeral will be held in the North Lamar Gym with full military honors on Saturday at 10 am.

Hoskins is the first combat casualty from Paris in the post 9-11 era. He and two other military soldiers were killed following a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan.

Kaufman County – Authorities in Kaufman County have seized more than 500 dogs and about 15 cats from an alleged puppy mill.

The Humane Society and sheriff's deputies raided the facility Tuesday. At last report, the kennel's owners have not yet been arrested or charged.

The Humane Society says it began investigating after a person appealed to the agency for dog food donations for the operation.

Commerce – A construction worker at the new Music Building on the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus receives emergency service after falling at least 25 ft Wednesday.

The Hispanic male was transported by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

According to Lieutenant Jason Bone with the University Police Department, the man suffered both eye and head injuries. Two members of the construction crew said the individual was unconscious upon emergency arrival at the scene.

Commerce – Texas A&M University-Commerce is being considered for more than $1 million in congressional appropriations, thanks to Congressman Ralph Hall's inclusion of two university research projects in the U.S. House of Representatives FY10 annual appropriations bills.

According to university president Dr. Dan Jones, these appropriations will be an opportunity for the university as well as a promise that the region's leaders are focused on our continued growth and success.

Greenville – A Greenville man is one of two people indicted on capital murder charges for the May 16 stabbing death of a Tyler man.

35-year-old Omar Sharis Jackson, along with 25-year-old Keyona Henderson, of Tyler, are alleged to have killed 42-year-old Patrick Pinkerton inside his home.

The two could face life in prison or the death penalty if convicted.

Paris – A juvenile is arrested in Oklahoma after allegedly stealing a vehicle in Paris Monday afternoon.

The vehicle was reportedly stolen from a residence in the 2900 block of Clarksville Street. It was believed that the keys may have been left in the car.

The vehicle was later located in Oklahoma after officers with the Paris Police Department entered the vehicle as stolen in the National Crime Information Computer system. The driver was arrested without incident.
