Braum's in Commerce to build new facility

Commerce – Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Stores in Commerce has received consent to build a new facility with drive-in service along Highway 50.

The Commerce City Council Tuesday approved a conditional use permit for the business, currently located along Culver Street in Commerce. The company plans to build the drive-in or curb service at 1589 Highway 50, adjacent to Dominos Pizza in the Commerce shopping center.

Step taken in Highway 11 project in Commerce

Commerce – The City of Commerce has taken the next step in its obligation to relocate utility lines along a portion of Highway 11 just east of the city.

Council members Tuesday approved the issuance and sale of tax and revenue certificates of obligation for the project.

Alliance Bank in Sulphur Springs was the low bidder, offering the city an interest rate of 5.24 percent. That's a good bid, according to Financial Advisor with First Southwest Jim Sabanis, who presented the report to council members Tuesday.

GEUS Board to receive progress report

Greenville – Progress is being made on a new service center for the Greenville Electric Utility System.

The GEUS board of trustees is expected to receive an update Thursday on the progress of the new center. The board also intends to authorize a final payment to the company which installed the utility's solar panels at local schools.

Attorney appointed for suspect in pitt-bull robbery

Commerce – A Commerce robbery suspect is appointed an attorney following a Tuesday hearing.

17 year-old Larry Denel Clark, of Commerce, is charged with aggravated robbery in connection with a reported burglary, a theft of pit-bull puppies and an attack on the owner of the dogs.

Clark remained in custody in the Hunt County Jail as of Tuesday on $50,000 bond.

As KETR first reported earlier this week, Commerce Police were dispatched to an apartment in the 800 block of Roseanne last Thursday.

Aguilar re-elected to Mayor's post

Sulphur Springs – Sulphur Springs Mayor Oscar Aguilar will retain his post for another term, after the city council Tuesday night canceled the May 9 election for the Mayor's seat/Place 3.

Aguilar was unopposed for the race. The two remaining races for Place 1 and 2 on the council are hotly contested, however, with eight individuals in all seeking appointment.

S. Springs ISD purposes bond item for May 9

Sulphur Springs – The Sulpur Springs Independent School District has released details of its multi-million dollar bond issue to appear on the May 9 ballot.

The district has called for a $48.4 million school bond to build, improve and renovate facilities that will impact students at each of their eight campuses.
