Charges dropped in stabbing case

West Tawakoni – Charges have been dropped in an area stabbing case. Prosecutors have dropped an aggravated assault charge filed against Christopher Scott Carson, of Rockwall, in connection with a reported stabbing in West Tawakoni. Carson was indicted by the Hunt County grand jury in January 2008 on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Investiture and groundbreaking today

Commerce – Today marks another big day for Texas A&M University-Commerce, with the investiture of President Dr. Dan Jones, plus the groundbreaking for the new Music Building.

The public is invited to join A&M-Commerce faculty, staff, and students at today's ceremony and academic convocation in the Ferguson Social Sciences Auditorium.

All classes between 8 a.m. and noon have been cancelled and university offices will be closed from 10 to 11:30 a.m. so employees may attend the ceremony. Classes will resume at noon.

Fires damage two structures in Hunt County

Hunt County – Several areas in south Hunt County were damaged following two fires Wednesday morning.

Hunt County Sheriff's Lt. Brian Alford said deputies were dispatched to a call at a home in West Tawakoni at around 2 a.m. where the homeowner of a trailer home was found putting out a fire with a water hose. Alford says the home burnt completely to the ground. Deputies with the fire department remained on scene until the homeowner was able to extinguish the flames. No injuries were reported.
