Sulphur Springs – 35-year-old Windy Yvonne Harle was taken into custody by Sulphur Springs Police for credit-debit card abuse and a Hunt County warrant for forfeiture of bond charges of injury to a child and identity theft.
Reports also show Harle was found to be in possession of suspected crystal meth while being booked.
– The next generation of student testing in Texas will be called the STAAR. An announcement Tuesday indicated the much-maligned Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills will be replaced with the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness, or STAAR.
The new testing system, which was mandated by the Legislature, will replace the TAKS beginning in the 2011-2012 school year. It includes 12 end-of-course exams in the four core subject areas in high school.
West Tawakoni – A Hunt County man is seeking a bond reduction following his arrest for aggravated robbery.
32-year-old Steven Glenn Rogers Jr., of West Tawakoni, remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond. An attorney was appointed Tuesday for Rogers Jr. with a bond hearing set for today.
Rogers was arrested Friday in connection with the reported robbery last month of an elderly West Tawakoni resident.
Greenville – Trial begins today for a Lamar County woman, who led authorities on a high speed chase through two counties following an alleged robbery.
Vicki Dawn Szalay has pleaded not guilty to one count each of evading arrest, endangering a child and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. The three charges all are in connection with a pursuit in July 2008 following a reported robbery at Crossroads Mall in Greenville.
Commerce – A Commerce teenager appears in court today in connection to a throat slashing incident last year.
18-year-old Corey Dominic Heath has reportedly confessed to slashing the throat of the victim following an argument over a shirt, although he pleaded not guilty in September to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Opening arguments and the start of testimony begin Tuesday. The incident in question occurred on June 25 in the 1900 block of Pecan Street.
