Busted!

Hopkins County – After stopping an 18 wheeler for a commercial inspection, Trooper David Reynolds noticed improper modifications to a glass panel in the cab of the truck. The driver admitted to having contraband and a search revealed 700 pounds of marijuana in a hidden compartment.

School opens in Rains

Emory – The campus will house pre-k through third grade for the spring semester and features a music room, high ceilings, new furniture, and an outdoor courtyard protected from three sides.

A formal dedication will be held later this month for the school approved by voters in 2008.

New sheriff in town

Fannin County – Donnie Foster takes over for retiring Kenneth Moore. Foster was previously the police chief for Savoy and brings two decades of law enforcement experience to the office, including serving previously in several jobs for the Fannin County Sheriff's Department.
Foster inherits a department that is operating six deputies short.

I-30 frontage roads to one-way

Greenville – More frontage roads along I-30 in Greenville are going one-way. TxDOT and contractor Austin Bridge and Road will be converting the frontage roads between Monty Stratton Parkway and State Highway 34/Wesley Street to a one-way system starting Monday.

As soon as the frontage roads are converted to one-way the Monty Stratton westbound entrance ramps and the Monty Stratton eastbound exit ramps will be striped and become fully operational.

Planning session in Greenville this week

Greenville – The initial public hearing for the Plan Advisory Committee for the Small Area Plan has been scheduled for 6 p.m., Thursday in the Fletcher Warren Civic Center.

The session is the first in a series of meetings designed to gather information toward an effort which will likely have an impact on most residents and businesses in the north part of the county.

West tawakoni restraining order to be reviewed

West Tawakoni – The status of a temporary restraining order is on the docket today that prevents the City of West Tawakoni from firing Police Chief Jack Schulzt . Schultz was suspended and an officer fired in October amid allegations it was due to their allegiance to the Tea Party movement.

Dallas man charged in TV thefts

TX – Manuel H. Arias-Robaina was one of five people named in a sealed indictment for engaging on organized criminal activity issued earlier this month by the Hunt County grand jury.

One of the other suspects named in the charge was also accused in March of stealing the house in which he was living.

Suspect in 30 burglaries in county, area jailed

Greenville, TX – Kenneth Eugene Katzenmaier, 27, who also has listed an address in Merit in court records, has been charged with eight counts of burglary of a habitation and one count each of evading arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, attempted escape, escape and possession of a controlled substance.

He is being held on no bond on at least three of the charges.
