'Outdoors' Host

Outdoors writer/radio host/book author Luke Clayton has been addicted to everything outdoors related since his childhood when he grew up hunting and fishing in rural northeast Texas. Luke pens a weekly newspaper column that appears in 34 Texas newspapers and is Editor at Large for Extreme Hog Hunter Magazine, Bowhunting Adventures and East Texas Outdoors Magazine and field editor for Dallas Safari Club "Camp Talk" publication.  Luke is on the pro staff of Mathews Bows, Smokin' Tex Electric Smokers, and GhostBlind. Follow his columns and listen to his weekly radio show throughout the year and you'll surely get exposed to many facets of the outdoor life.

Catfish anglers will want to make sure and tune in this week. Lake Tawakoni guide David Hanson divulges a new pattern that is producing lots and lots of blue catfish  weighing between 2 and 6 pounds with the occasional larger fish. This pattern should hold steady until the onset of cooler weather when the trophy blue season begins.

This week, Luke solo's on the show and gives you some insights into what's going on in "Luke's World". Luke discusses an innovative new product he learned about at the Texas Trophy Hunter's show in Ft. Worth this past week called the "Ox Rack" ( www.theoxrack.com ) The unit attaches to the front of your ATV and is powered by an electric winch. Luke also tells about a great way to save money making breakfast sausage at home.  He recently made 35 pounds for an upcoming high country elk hunt.

The Y.O. Ranch was established in 1880 by Charles Schreiner and encompassed over one-half million acres. The Y.O. introduced exotic animals for hunting back around 1950 and now and Texas is "the" destination for hunting animals such as Axis and Fallow deer, blackbuck antelope and a host of other animals.

A decade or so ago, white bass were extremely scarce at Lake Fork but in the past few years, these prolific spawners have gained a strong foothold. Savvy anglers like Large are still catching plenty of largemouth bass but now, there is an abundant "food fish" that is usually more than willing to bite!
