The amount of confirmed tornadoes Tuesday could still rise, but officials say at least one occurred in Hunt County as multiple homes were destroyed near Union Valley.

Five homes were destroyed and another nine homes damaged along the north side of State Highway 276, according to Richard Hill with the Hunt County office of Homeland Security. Hill met with officials with the National Weather Service Wednesday.

He categorizes the twister as an EF-2, meaning maximum wind speeds could have reached 135 mph. The same tornado is believed to have caused even more damage to neighboring Royse City, where it originated. Meteorologists say it had a path length of 3.1 miles and maximum width of 400 yards.

The heaviest damage Tuesday is said to have occurred in Forney where an EF-3 hit.

So far, there have been 11 confirmed tornadoes but officials say that figure could reach 15.
