5 Rockwall County residents monitored for Ebola symptoms

Texas DSHS

Five Rockwall County residents are being monitored for symptoms of the Ebola virus, according to a statement from the Rockwall County Office of Emergency management.

One of the five is a health care worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, officials said. The other four were passengers on a commercial flight this week with a person who later tested positive for the virus, they said. All five people are considered “low risk,” according to the statement.

The five are being monitored by officials from The Texas Department of State Health Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Services, the release said. Local agencies do not know the identities of addresses of the five, it said, as neither Texas Department of State Health Services staff nor Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Services staff are obligated to release that information, the statement said.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital nurse Brianna Aguirre and her two children are not among the five people being monitored. Aguirre, a Collin County resident within the Royse City school district, has announced a voluntary self-quarantine for herself and two children in her household. Aguirre has said publicly that she considered her protective equipment inadequate while she treated Ebola patient Nina Pham at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

Neither Aguirre nor her children have displayed symptoms. Royse City school officials have closed the schools attended by the children, Ruth Cherry Intermediate and Davis Elementary, for cleaning today. They are scheduled to re-open Monday. Royce City school officials also announced that buses and other campuses will be cleaned on Saturday. The cleaning is being done by Royse City school district staff using Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocol, officials said.
