About 2,000 lose power in Commerce

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The power outage that made for an uncomfortable sleep for about 2,000 Commerce residents this morning may have been the result of erratic driving.

Oncor Spokesman Stan McKey says while no clear indication was given in the report as to how it happened, he feels a car may have hit a guide wire - the wire that stretches into the ground to keep tension on the line.

"I'm sure when it did that apparently it did it hard enough to where it jerked the top of the pole enough to break the cross on it and get the circuits together," McKey said.

McKey was not made aware of the location of the incident, but the majority of residents without power were on the north side of town. Commerce Police dispatch logs did not indicate any activity regarding a vehicle wreck.

Power was restored to residents at approximately 4:30 a.m., about four hours after it went out.
