Commerce – The Texas Education Agency has recently released accountability ratings for all 1,030 school districts in the state.
Each district and school within the district is either rated Academically Unacceptable, Academically Acceptable, Recognized or Exemplary.
Overall, the Commerce Independent School District was rated as Academically Acceptable, the same overall rating received last year. Individually, however, both the district's elementary schools improved from Academically Acceptable to Recognized.
Ratings are typically based on student performance on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test and a standardized test for special education students along with dropout and completion rates.
The Quinlan ISD also received an Academically Acceptable overall rating, as did the Sulphur Springs Independent School District. Academically Acceptable rankings were also given to the Cooper, Paris and Bonham ISD's. The Greenville ISD, however, was rated Accademically Unacceptable, while the Rains ISD received a Recognized rating.
Statewide, more Texas schools received the state's top accountability rating than ever before. More than 370 of the state's 1,030 school districts ranked either exemplary or recognized. In 2007, only 244 districts earned the two top rankings.
