BONHAM - The Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham is among dozens of organizations participating in National Salute to Veteran Patients Week.

The public is invited to participate in open house activities Monday through Friday at the Center.

The National Salute to Veteran Patients Program is designed to pay tribute and express appreciation to Veterans; increase community awareness on the VA and encourage citizens to volunteer and visit hospitalized Veterans. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, more than 98,000 Veterans of the U.S. armed services are cared for every day in VA medical centers, outpatient clinics, domiciliaries and nursing homes.

Events include special ward visits and valentine distributions; photo opportunities; school essay contests; special recreation activities and Veteran recognition programs. Contact the Bonham Center for more information at 903-583-2111.
