Aggies sweep Lions in two one-run ballgames

After two losses against Cameron the Lions are at 10-12 and the Aggies moved up to 15-2.

Cameron came into the John Cain Family Softball Field and handed Texas A&M University-Commerce a pair of one-run losses, 1-0 and 7-6, Wednesday night following a complete game from Kelsey Watson in game one and an extra-inning win in game two.

Watson kept the Lions off balance all game picking up six strikeouts in the game one win.  She allowed only three Lion base runners in scoring position all game.  December Rivers was the lone Lion with more than one hit going 2-for-3 with a triple.

The Aggies only run came after Misty Dooley, who went 2-for-4, led off the top of seventh with a triple.  She scored on a ground out to second off the bat of Chelsea DeLong.

Courtney Moore was brilliant for the Lions in the circle herself after striking out six Aggie hitters.  She scattered seven hits in her seven innings of work.

The Lions offense got rolling in game two with a two-run first inning highlighted by an RBI double by Ponce that score Baylea Higgs, who reached on a single.

Cameron notched one run in the second and two more in the third inning, but A&M-Commerce answered with a RBI single by Romero to knot the game at three. However, the Aggies pushed across a run in the fourth and two more in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead.

With six outs left, the Lions mounted a comeback after Johnna Sturm doubled and scored on a walk in the bottom of the sixth then retied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a two-RBI single from Brenda Inparraguirre to send the game into extra innings.

In the top of the eighth inning Breezy McComas reached on a fielder's choice and later singled on a Lion throwing error.

Magen Lynch and Ponce had two hits each with each driving in a run.

With the losses, the Lions fall to 12-10 overall, while the Aggies improve to 15-2.

A&M-Commerce will open its home Lone Star Conference series against Eastern Mexico at the John Cain Family Softball Field with a four-game set starting Friday with a doubleheader at 4 p.m.  The series will conclude Saturday with a pair of games beginning at 1 p.m.
