Agreement reached to begin sidewalk planning

TxDot

GREENVILLE - Landscapes around local school districts will soon begin to take shape as part of the Safe Routes to Schools Program.

In Greenville, more than 15 miles of new sidewalks will connect four elementary schools. The City Council agreed Tuesday to enter into an agreement with a Dallas company to come up with plans for new sidewalks.

In May 2010 Greenville ISD learned that Bowie, Carver, Crockett and Lamar Elementary had collectively received $1.8 million to allow for repairs to existing sidewalks, curb cuts for ramps, new curbs and gutters, crossings and drainage.

The cities of Commerce, Farmersville, Paris and Mt. Vernon ISD also combined to receive more than $1.6 million in sidewalk improvements, with each entity awarded at least $360,000.
