Aikin not seeking another term on School Board

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Commerce ISD Board of Trustee Debbie Aikin announced Monday she will not be running for a sixth term in May.

In a prepared statement Aikin said she's grateful to the people of Commerce for the opportunity they gave her to serve the children and taxpayers for the past fifteen years. Aikin extended a special thanks to the teachers and her colleagues on the board, past and present.

Since her election in 1994, Aikin has served as president and secretary of the board and helped pass two bond issues.

Aikin's Place 6 seat is one of two up for election on May 9. KETR learned Tuesday that Randy Starks has filed for Place 6, and Incumbent Medley Wilson has filed for re-election for Place 7.

Filing continues now through March 9 at the CISD Administration Building at 604 Culver St.
