Cooper Review

Both the City of Cooper and Delta County officials have set forth the off-premise sale of alcohol ordinances during their prospective meetings with Loretta Green of TABC, present. The two entities have opted to a mutual agreement in order to make enforcing the regulations by authorities and the Delta County Sheriff’s office easier.

Some of the main topics were no alcohol sales will be allowed in residential areas, stores must be 300 feet from schools, daycares, churches and hospitals (churches are front door to front door and schools are property line to property line – if it is less than 1,000 feet the TABC enforces a $10,000 bond), drive-thrus will be permitted, the City of Cooper will impose a $150 building permit fee while the County will not and there will not be any restriction on retail sales enacted.

Two local businesses - Nu-Way, on East Dallas Avenue in Cooper, and Delta Supermarket, on First Street in Cooper,  have posted their request for off-premise consumption only sale of alcohol permits.

The Delta County Commissioners Court will meet again on Monday, July 13 at 9 a.m. and the City of Cooper will meet on the same evening at 5 p.m.
