This week on Movie Picks with Alice Reese, Alice reviews No Escape, Mistress America, and Digging for Fire.

No Escape is an unlikely pairing of suspenseful terror and Owen Wilson, but according to Alice, it works. Wilson plays Jack Dwyer, an American man who moves his wife and two small daughters with him to a country in Asia that breaks out in civil war almost as soon as they arrive. They spend the movie trying to escape with their lives, and Alice says its 'one big, harrowing, violent adventure.' Lake Bell matches well with Wilson as his wife, and Pierce Brosnan shows up to add some support. Alice highly recommends this movie.

Mistress America is an indie movie with a chance to make a main-stream comedy cross-over. It follows Brooke, a 30-year old who seems to have all the confidence in the world until you take a closer look. The movie takes a turn to screwball comedy when a road trip comes into play. It was co-written by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, with Gerwig in the starring role as well. Alice really enjoyed this movie, and if you get the chance to see it, she would recommend it.

Digging for Fire stars Jake Johnson and Rosemarie DeWitt as a husband and wife whose weekend apart sends them both on some crazy adventures. The coolest part of this movie is that it was mostly made up as they went. It also has some fun and interesting side characters, including Orlando Bloom and Anna Kendrick. Alice really enjoyed this movie, though it's a bit talky.
