Alleged theft ring slowed following arrests

By Brad Kellar

Commerce – The Hunt County Sheriff's Office has made a dent in what they believe is a string of thefts that spans three states.

Three individuals, two men and one woman, were arrested by the Hunt County Sheriff's Office Monday after the alleged theft from the Commerce Wal-Mart.

After receiving a call from Commerce PD, a sheriff's deputy located and pulled over the vehicle along Highway 50, eventually recovering most of the stolen items. The suspects had reportedly hidden the items in the woods near Brigham Cemetery in Campbell.

The suspect's are believed to be linked to the same crime at Wal-Marts across the area. According to Commerce Police Chief Kerry Crews, the thieves are suspected of removing items from the box of a larger, less expensive piece of merchandise, and then fill with valuable pieces of electronics. They would then purchase the disguised product.

When attempting to pull off the scheme Monday, they were confronted by a Wal-Mart employee and fled before being caught a short time later.

At last report, authorities were working to get proper ID's on the two male suspects. The female is said to be from Springtown, about 40 minutes northwest of Fort Worth.
