At 12:23am on 11-28-2012, Commerce Police Department received a call from Hunt Regional Community Hospital advising of a stabbing victim that had been brought to the Emergency Room.  Officers arrived and found a 20 year African American male that had a single stab wound to his upper left chest.  Hospital personnel were performing life saving measures, but were unable to revive the victim.

Justice of the Peace Jennifer Reeves was called and pronounced the victim dead a short time later.  An autopsy was ordered.  The victim is identified as Jamal Stanton, 20 years old of Greenville, Texas.   Investigators with Commerce PD and the Texas Rangers were called in to investigate this death.  A person of interest in the case has been detained.

Just before the call was received from Hunt Regional Community Hospital-ER, an anonymous call of a fight in the Cul-de-sac at Tarter apartments was received by CPD Dispatch.  The caller told dispatch of a fight in the “circle” and a person was being taken to the Emergency Room.  Investigators have determined that the two calls are related.
