Alumni Center featured in President's Table

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Making its debut Monday night, The President's Table at Texas A&M University-Commerce featured updates within the Alumni Relations, Economics and Athletic Departments.

President Dan Jones, alongside Senior Katie Harton, co-hosted the new show, which was presented by the Radio/Television Department at A&M-Commerce.

Speaking on behalf of Alumni Relations were Alumni Association President Mick Trusty and Alumni Relations Director Derryle Peace. One focus was the recent completion of the new Alumni Center, a 6,500 square foot building that more than triples the size of the department's former facility. The building also features a board room that's more than 1,000 square feet.

According to Derryle Peace, the building shows alumni are committed to A&M-Commerce.

''It just a great facility for us and it says a lot about alumni, I think it makes a real clear statement that alumni have a vested interest in the university,'' says Peace.

The University began seeking funds for the project nearly four years ago, receiving more than $1 million from alumni. Crews broke ground in January.

Also appearing on Monday night's show were Economics Professor Steven Shwiff, Athletic Director Carlton Cooper and Head Football Coach Scotty Conley.

This was the first of three President's Tables to air this semester, with the second running later this month and the third to air in early December.

You can hear the rebroadcast of the first President's Table Tuesday on KETR beginning at 6:30 p.m., or watch the program on Commerce Cable Channel 3.
