Alumni Center grand opening

By Courtney Krisak

Commerce – For the third time in the past three weeks, another major celebration is in store on the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce with the grand opening of the Alumni Center.

Staff moved into the new facility last October, which encompasses 6,500 sq. feet, and is four times the size of the old Alumni facility. The more than $1 million building was made possible through donations from A&M-Commerce alumni.

Many have already begun to utilize the space of the new Alumni Center for alumni gatherings, board meetings, and conferences.

This past month A&M Commerce has seen the grand opening of the new Sam Rayburn Student Center, and the groundbreaking of the new Music Building.

Tours will begin at 10am Friday, followed by the grand opening ceremony at 10:30am on the front lawn, located on the corner of Stonewall and Bois D' Arc Street on campus. Guest speakers will be Director of Alumni Relations Derryle Peace, Alumni Board President Dwight York, Student Government President Byron Johnson, and A&M Commerce President Dr. Dan Jones. Tours will continue following the ceremony, with a luncheon to take place at noon at the Sam Rayburn Student Center.
