COMMERCE - Texas A&M University-Commerce ranks second in increased enrollment percentage and third in credit hours among A&M System schools.
The recently released official 12th day class figures are compared to the fall 2011. Here's the complete breakdown from each System school.
A&M-Commerce had already surpassed its biggest enrollment in school history in late August. The final tally comes to 12,052 for the fall 2012 semester, and represents a 12.36 percent increase from last year. The amount of semester credit hours in which students are enrolled is up 10.24 percent over that span.
“I am so proud of our university family for achieving this milestone. This significant increase, in both headcount and credit hours, is remarkable in comparison to other System institutions and other universities in our region. It is certainly evident we have become a first-choice university,” said Dr. Mary Hendrix, vice president for Student Access and Success.
She notes that officials compiled the data using certified numbers based on 20th day totals for fall 2011, rather than 12th day, which actually produces a nine percent bump in enrollment, rather than a 12 percent hike. Hendrix adds that they are currently working on the drop list and hope to count as many as they can for the official 20th day number. Roughly 400 online, out-of-state students will not count for certified enrollment.
Three years ago, A&M-Commerce administrators set a goal of 10,000 students in fall 2010, 11,000 in fall 2011, and then 12,000 in fall 2012.
“The challenges that lie ahead are providing quality instruction to a growing student population, planning for the infrastructure, including faculty, facilities, staff, and support services, and assisting those students who dream of achieving a college degree, but lack the financial resources to do so,” Dr. Hendrix says.
