A&M-Commerce basketball double-header tonight

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The A&M-Commerce men's and women's basketball teams face tough opponents tonight as Angelo State comes to town. The 2-1 Lady Lions face the 4-0 Angelo State Rambelles for a 6pm tip-off in the A&M-Commerce Field House. The Rambelles are ranked 18th in the nation in Division II. Head Coach Denny Downing thinks that this years Lady Lions team matches up well against the defending conference champs, as the team returns four starters off last year's squad, has six junior college transfers, and one high school signee.

The men's team is starting strong at 5-1 and faces the 4-1 Angelo State Rams after the women's game tonight. The Lions have had some close games in the early season, but come off a win over Southern Arkansas earlier this week and senior guard Jemart Miller has picked up Lone Star Conference North Player of the Week honors. A&M-Commerce and Angelo State are long-time conference rivals that are now in separate conference after the Lions moved to the LSC North.

Both games of the double header can be heard live here on 88.9, with the pre-game for the women's game starting at 5:45 tonight. The game will also be broadcast live via the internet.
