A&M-Commerce budget to be addressed

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – A&M-Commerce administrators will address the school's current budget situation during Thursday's University Community Update.

Texas lawmakers are exploring a number of money-saving options in dealing with a projected $15 billion budget shortfall, including cuts to higher education. All state institutions have been asked to cut 2.5 percent from their current fiscal year's budget, which accounts for about $1 million at A&M-Commerce.

During January's Spring Assembly, President Dan Jones said that no instructional positions or operating budgets will be affected by reductions through the remainder of the budget year. But steeper cuts are a possibility for the next budget year.

Thursday's Community Update begins at 3 p.m. in the Ferguson Social Sciences Auditorium.
