A&M-Commerce hosts new Chancellor

By Bill Oliver

Commerce, TX – Texas A&M University System Chancellor Doctor Mike McKinney had a whirlwind tour of the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus Wednesday. The Chancellor met with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

His schedule was capped by a dinner in the Memorial Student Center. Dr. McKinney encouraged the crowd of on and off campus supporters to make A&M-Commerce the best in specific areas. He considered Commerce the best campus in the A&M system at the diversity of its student body. He was also impressed with opportunities students have outside the classroom.

As Doctor McKinney...as in family practice physician McKinney...finishes his third full month as Chancellor, he said one of the first things he had to decide was identifying the role of the A&M System. He has to take into account 17 different agencies. For instance, the College Station campus makes up only 40 percent of the 103 thousand students in the entire system.
