A&M-Commerce hosts Special Guest Dan Rather

COMMERCE - Texas A&M University-Commerce welcomes noted journalist and renowned speaker Dan Rather as the first guest in the Prestigious Speaker Series April 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ferguson Social Sciences Auditorium.

Rather has been in the journalism profession for more than 40 years, servicing our nation in more ways than many realize. In addition to being the first reporter to break the news of the John F. Kennedy assassination in 1963, he has been one of the main sources of information for every presidential campaign from 1952 to 2004 and stayed on air for 18 hours straight to ensure that Americans were well-informed of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

While most of his life has been dedicated to reporting news, he will be taking time to reflect on his life lessons and knowledge of the United States economy with the students of Texas A&M University-Commerce as well as the community.

“The economy is a very important current topic, and Dan Rather has considerable experience to share,” said Wendy Morgan, director of the Rayburn Student Center and committee member. “He was highly recommended by other campuses and has been on the scenes as a journalist through virtually every significant world event that our students have experienced.”

Tickets will be available to purchase March 26 online and in The Club in the Rayburn Student Center. Admission for students is free and ticket costs are $5 for faculty and staff and $10 for community members. Tickets are limited.
