TAMUC Marketing Communications

COMMERCE - University President Dan Jones has announced that Texas A&M University-Commerce will launch a nationwide search for a new director of intercollegiate athletics.

Alicia Currin, Chief of Staff, and Eric Gruver, Director of Honors Advising and Faculty Athletic Representative, will lead the search process.

President Jones also announced the formation of a 15-member search committee for the university’s new athletic director. The committee will begin working immediately and offer its recommendations to the president in early January.

"The search for our next athletic director will be a thorough and transparent process,” said President Jones.  “The successful candidate will be an individual of impeccable character who is dedicated to the development of the student athlete and committed to success of the program," he said.

Judy Sackfield, A&M-Commerce’s current interim athletic director will continue to head the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics until the search is successfully concluded.

"I am extremely grateful to Judy Sackfield for her dedication to the university and hard work in leading the athletic department during this interim period," said the President. "She has provided stability and her leadership is deeply appreciated,” he added.

Sackfield will resume her full-time responsibilities as Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator for the university upon the arrival of the new athletic director.

President Jones said the university will announce the selection of the new athletics director in the spring of 2013.
