A&M-Commerce signs agreement with Lon Morris

By Mary Lou Hazel, Media Relations

Commerce – The presidents of Texas A&M University-Commerce and Lon Morris College, a two-year private church-related institution in Jacksonville, have signed an agreement helping Lon Morris students transfer to A&M-Commerce to continue their education.

Dr. Dan Jones, president of A&M-Commerce, and Dr. Miles McCall, president of Lon Morris, met in a signing ceremony on the Commerce campus on Sept. 16.

"We live in an environment where no institution is an island and to be successful we must come together in partnerships," Jones said. "Texas A&M University-Commerce is pleased to establish this partnership with Lon Morris College," Jones said.

McCall said, "As a two-year school, we are about a four-year degree. This relationship with Texas A&M University-Commerce will help our students and we are looking forward to working with you."

McCall added that if A&M-Commerce is interested in "quality and uniqueness, we are a good feeder school for you."

With an enrollment of about 450 students including students from 13 foreign countries, Lon Morris is the oldest two-year college in Texas. It is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the University Senate of the United Methodist Church. Lon Morris' curriculum focuses on the arts and sciences with an emphasis on the liberal arts.

The agreement calls for A&M-Commerce and Lon Morris to develop on-line transfer planning that will assist Lon Morris students in enrolling at the university. Lon Morris students who follow the recommended program of study and who meet all other admission requirements will be eligible to enroll at A&M-Commerce.

Also with the agreement, A&M-Commerce will work closely with Lon Morris students to inform them of scholarship and financial aid opportunities and visit the Jacksonville campus to meet with students and faculty.
