Commerce – Items from Thursday's Spring Assembly at Texas A&M University-Commerce, hosted by Provost Larry Lamanski and President Dan Jones, included new and extended university programs, federal initiatives for 2011, legislative items regarding public education, and the university budget.

Figures presented during Thursday's assembly show A&M-Commerce increased its freshmen retention rate by seven percent from 2007 to 2008, as well as graduation and enrollment figures over the years. Officials are seeking a three percent employee merit raise, plus are continuing to work toward bringing in highly qualified students through its Honors College, which is now in its third year. Dr. Jones also revisited elements of the university's 2007-2012 strategic plan.

A number of construction projects currently underway were also described in greater detail. They include a chilled water loop through campus, a stadium seating addition, music building update and crosswalk enhancements, among other items.

Students return to the classroom on Monday, January 18.
