A&M-Commerce student killed

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – An A&M-Commerce student was killed late last week after being struck by a vehicle. 21-year-old Tommy Blake Hite was walking up the Loop 178 exit ramp Thursday night when he was struck and killed.

According to police, Hite was walking towards his home after his vehicle had broken down. Hite was walking across the exit ramp and may have been listening to headphones, which prevented him from hearing the van approaching. The area does not have street lamps, and the driver of the van did not see Hite in time to stop. Hite was transported to Presbyterian of Commerce, where he later died.

Tommy Hite was a psychology major attending A&M-Commerce and is originally of Celeste. Visitation is today from 6pm to 8pm at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Funeral services are planned for tomorrow at 11am.
