A&M-Commerce women's basketball advances, men's season ends

Commerce and Canyon, TX – Sophomore guard Britney Jordan tied a school record with 43 points on 11-of-20 shooting to propel the Texas A&M-Commerce women to a 97-77 victory over Tarleton State in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Tuesday at the A&M-Commerce Field House. With the win, the Lions women (23-8) host the remainder of the Lone Star Conference Tournament and will face Angelo State at 8 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals at the A&M-Commerce Field House. The other semifinal contest will tip-off at 6 p.m. as West Texas A&M battles Central Oklahoma.

In Canyon, the A&M-Commerce men lost at West Texas A&M 82-80 when Andre Hill made a lay up with 0.2 seconds remaining. In the loss, four Texas A&M-Commerce had four players in double figures with junior guard Kevin Widemond scoring a team-high 24 points. He was joined in double digits by Lamar Searight, who added 14, Leonard Bishop scored 12 and Champ Sylvester poured in 11. The loss ends the season for the Lions, who finish with a 14-14 overall mark.
