Anderson to coach at Cooper High School

Former Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball coach Nicole Anderson is the new head girls coach at Cooper High School.

Former Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball coach Nicole Anderson has been hired to be the head girls basketball coach at Cooper High School.

“Several of our players have been taking basketball lessons from Coach Anderson at A&M-Commerce during the summer ,” Cooper schools superintendent Denicia Hohenberger said.

“Their parents had nothing but positive things to say about her coaching. We are all really excited to bring her on board. She will be a true asset to our players and the community,” Hohenberger said.

Anderson compiled a 26-106 record in five seasons in Commerce. Anderson’s best season was the 2012-13 campaign, during which the Lions upset No. 2 seed Abilene Christian in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament. Anderson shared Lone Star Conference Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year honors along with Abilene Christian’s Julie Goodenough that season.

In other Cooper Independent School District business, high school principal Chris Kiser said that curriculum improvements for the upcoming year include a plumbing program, web-based technology classes, business management and personal finance classes.

The board has also approved the traditional school calendar. Holiday dates include: Labor Day, Sept. 1, Thanksgiving Nov. 24-28, Christmas break Dec. 22-Jan. 2, 2015, Spring Break, March 16-20 and Memorial Day, May 25, 2015 along with staff development days of Aug. 18-21, 2014, Jan. 19, 2015 and June 6, 2015. Graduation is set for June 6, 2015 at 7 p.m. at the High School Gymnasium.

The board will meet again on Monday, April 21 at 6 p.m.
