Another major fire in Commerce

By Scott Harvey & Bill Oliver

Commerce, TX –

A Wednesday morning fire at the Ponderosa Apartments in Commerce resulted in no injuries but the displacement of 25 individuals from 8 families.

Donations of food, clothing and furniture are being accepted. Commerce City Secretary Marty Cunningham said clothing and furniture donations can be taken to My Sister's Closet and The Bargain Box, non-perishable food can be dropped off at the Commerce Police Department, and cash donations are being collected at City Hall. For further information, call Cunningham at 903-886-1125.

The fire destroyed one of the 10-unit buildings of the 400-unit, multi-building Ponderosa complex. Firefighters from Commerce, Greenville, Campbell, and Wolfe City responded to the call at 5:42 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The Ponderosa fire follows an early Sunday morning house fire in Commerce that claimed two lives.
