Another year granted to Tiger Trust Card

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The Commerce School Board has approved to continue its Tiger Trust Card Incentive Program, which allows certain privileges to students who follow district guidelines.

During last night's school board meeting, High School Principal Virdie Montgomery recommended the program's continuation.

He cited a decrease in tardiness by 70 percent since the start of the program in January. Montgomery said he'd like to bring the program back before board members each year to check progress.

Students who wear the Tiger Trust Card badge are allowed to use their cell phones before and in between classes and listen to an MP3 device while not in class. If in violation of district guidelines, their trust card is removed for the day or sometimes longer.
