Applications now being accepted for Police Academy

Greenville – The Greenville Police Department is now accepting applications through September 1st, for the Citizens Police Academy.

The academy, which is scheduled to start September 13, will cover topics in Communications/911, Patrol Operations, Crime Prevention, Narcotics, Tactical Unit, K-9, DWI Procedures, Family Violence, and Criminal Investigation/Crime Scene. Students will also get to "ride along" with an Officer.

Classes will consist of lectures, demonstrations, tours, and hands-on participation. A total of 10 classes will be held on Monday evenings.

The Citizens' Police Academy is free of charge and open to anyone who lives or works in Greenville and is at least 21 years of age. Proof of valid automobile insurance and medical insurance is required to attend.

Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy may join other past graduates in the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (CPAAA). The CPAAA works with the Greenville Police Department through volunteering, special projects, and events. The Greenville Citizens Police Academy has graduated 441 members from 27 classes.

Applications are available at the Greenville Police and Courts Building, located at 3000 Lee Street or at the Municipal Building, located at 2821 Washington Street. You may also receive an application by mail by calling 903-457-2998. Applications are also available online at www.ci.greenville.tx.us/CPAenrollment. Application deadline is September 1, 2010.
