Cooper ISD Trustees Jeff Phifer, Mandy Freeman, Kregg Slakey, Blake Randle, Thomas Darden, and Lea Waller were given gift baskets for School Board Appreciation.

In the January meeting, the Cooper Independent School District Board of Trustees was gifted with appreciation in honor of School Board Appreciation Month.

“Thank you for the gifts,” said Cooper ISD Board President Thomas Darden. “Everything you do makes our job easier.” The Cooper Elementary campus used a “sewing to success” theme for their gift of appreciation.

Contrarily, Cooper ISD Superintendent Denicia Hohenberger reported the attendance isn’t as pleasant as a gift with several students absent suffering from illness and flu. Superintendent Hohenberger commended Director of School Operations Denice Vaughn and her staff for their work disinfecting the campuses, cleaning, and controlling germs. Her concerns were also with the winter weather. Following the meeting they canceled classes for Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018 due to weather.

Vaughn was also commended for passing the recent food service report with zero findings in the administrative review. She received a special letter of certificate from the Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller. The letter stated congratulations and noted this review covered critical areas of review both district-wide and at Cooper Junior High.

“Clearly your entire Child Nutrition department staff is committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of your students. The Texas Department of Agriculture is proud to partner with Contract Entities like yours that exemplify the highest standards of caring and service by teaching children the relationship between proper eating and good health,” said Commissioner Sid Miller.

“This is a well-earned certificate,” said Hohenberger, on the daunting task. “This was one of the more thorough reviews conducted.”

“I am proud for the staff,” said Vaughn. “This is just normal practices for them every day.”

The Board approved 6-0 vote the May 5, 2018 order of election for two full term board positions. Early voting will take place at the CISD Administration on 350 West McKinney Street in Cooper with Early Voting Clerk Neali Landers beginning on April 23, 2018 and ending on May 1, 2018. Applications for a place on the ballot shall be filed by February 16, 2018. Applications for ballots by mail must be received no later than the close of business on April 24, 2018.
